Cataracts

7 Signs You Might Have Cataracts

Cataracts are a common eye condition. Typically, they affect adults over the age of 75. They can compromise your vision unless you take appropriate action with the help of an eye doctor. Family Vision Center has offices in Stratford and Bridgeport to provide the eye care services that our patients rely on.

Let’s look at seven signs of cataracts:

Signs of Cataracts

If you have any of the symptoms listed below, we recommend making an appointment with your eye care professional:

  • Blurry vision - It's not uncommon to have blurry vision with cataracts because the cloudy lens is causing light to scatter.
  • Glare - Headlights, lamps, and the sun can produce significant glare when you have cataracts.
  • Frequent prescription changes - If you find that your eyeglass or contact lens prescription needs to be changed more frequently, it could be due to cataracts.
  • Poor night vision -Individuals with cataracts typically find it much harder to see when there's not a lot of light. Driving can also become more challenging.
  • Changed colors - When cataracts form, they can cause colors to appear faded. You may notice the world looks less vibrant than it used to be.
  • Double vision in one eye - This is also referred to as monocular diplopia and is relatively common with cataracts.
  • Halos around lights - If you see halos or rings around lights, this can sometimes be an indication of cataracts.

Treatment for Cataracts

Typically, surgery is required to fix cataracts. Our optometrists will evaluate your eyes and work with you to determine the best course of action. Cataract surgery is usually very successful in restoring vision that has been lost due to cataracts. Patients who get surgery often report improved vision in as little as 24 hours after surgery. We can provide care for all of your pre and post-op needs.
