Conditions Treated at Family Vision Center

Good eyesight plays an essential role in overall health and well-being. If you're experiencing symptoms of one of the following conditions, make an appointment with one of our optometrists at Family Vision Center. We serve patients in and around Stratford and Bridgeport, CT.

Eye Fatigue

If you drive and/or use a computer, you may experience eye fatigue. Symptoms include burning and itching eyes, headaches, and double vision. An eye doctor on our team will offer professional advice to help you avoid further eye strain and check your eyes for serious conditions that may be causing or exacerbating your symptoms.

Refractive Errors

Myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism are all types of vision problems that can be corrected by eyeglasses or contacts. They are caused when your eye doesn't blend light properly. Common symptoms include blurred vision, double vision, eye strain, and headaches. If you have any of these symptoms, our optometrists will conduct a thorough eye examination to diagnose your condition and provide proper treatment.

Diabetic Eye Problems

Up to 45% of all people who are diagnosed with diabetes also have some degree of diabetic retinopathy. Symptoms include floaters, blurriness, and retinal swelling. If left untreated, diabetic retinopathy could result in blindness. If you have diabetes, it's important to have a dilated eye exam at least once a year. This exam can help an optometrist detect and treat the condition in its early stages before it causes irreversible damage.

Eye Allergies and Infections

Irritating substances such as pollen and smoke may cause an allergic reaction in one or both eyes. Common symptoms of eye allergies include burning, itching, watering eyes; scaling; and swelling. Eye allergies can be managed with proper medication. Eye allergies can cause eye infections, but they aren't the only cause. Bacteria and viruses cause infections as well. An optometrist will examine both eyes to determine the root cause of the infection and prescribe medications accordingly.
