Laser Vision Correction Co-Management

Family Vision Center Provides Laser Vision Correction Co-Management

If you’re considering laser vision correction surgery, your optometrist can help throughout the process. Your eye doctor can determine if you have any eye problems that could affect your ability to benefit from the procedure. In addition, your surgeon will require you to have your eyes and vision checked or a period after surgery to ensure proper healing and vision correction. At Family Vision Center in Stratford and Bridgeport, CT, we can provide pre- and post-laser vision correction eye care.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Laser Vision Correction Surgery?

Not everyone is a good candidate for laser correction surgery. Your eye doctor can help you determine if laser vision surgery is appropriate for you. The surgery may be a good choice if you are nearsighted, far-sighted, or have astigmatism. You must be over the age of 18 and have completed the vision changes that generally occur during childhood. You must be free of any eye infections or diseases. You must be in good general health, and not have any serious diseases, such as diabetes, that can affect the eyes.

What Happens During Laser Vision Correction Surgery?

Laser vision correction involves cutting a tiny flap in the cornea and re-shaping its curvature to allow more normal, clear vision. Your eyes will be numbed before the procedure begins. The procedure takes less than an hour and recovery is fast and generally without complications. After the surgery, a shield will be placed over the eye and you should wear the shield while you sleep to prevent inadvertently disturbing the incision. Your surgeon will provide eye drops to prevent infection. You should have someone with you to drive you home after the procedure.

Post-Surgery Eye Care

The eye surgeon will want to see you the day after surgery to check the healing process. You should also have your eyes checked periodically for up to six months until the full effects of the surgery have stabilized. Your Stratford or Bridgeport optometrist can monitor your vision after surgery to ensure the healing process is progressing normally.
